Homemade Laundry Detergent for HE Washers

After seeing some pins on Pinterest, my sister in law tried a version for her regular washer. She made 5 gallons of it, uses 2 tbsp, and LOVES it! It worked wonders on her laundry and the amazing amount of money she saves was even more amazing! The thing that really caught my attention besides the above mentioned, was that she finally got that weird moldy smell out of her towels. I thought it was just me! I have washed and rewashed my towels trying to get that awful smell out of them. I am a smell obsessed woman and this bothered my OCD of smelldome. So...I thought, what the heck. I'll try it. But, I had to make sure that I could find something that wouldn't damage my HE washer. The most useful site for me was DIY Natural. After looking at many sites and reading readers reviews and comments, here's what I came up with. Also, you'll see how much money you'll save! It's really ridiculous. I found everything at my local Walmart. You can also find these items at Amazon.

Ingredients:
Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (Approx $2-3)
Borax (Approx $2-3)
Fels-Naptha ($.97)

You will need:
Cheese grater
Container that seals good to put your laundry soap in

Directions:
1 Cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 Cup Borax
1 Small Grated Bar of Fels-Naptha
I put in about 3 tbsp for each load
THAT'S IT!!!

I use the smallest holes...HOWEVER....PLEASE watch your fingers! It never fails (cuz I'm clumsy) that I tear my finger up! So be careful!
I admit, this is the only so-so part of the whole process...grating the soap takes a while and your hand and wrist will not be happy! And, I'm sure I could do something better to not make such a mess.
After you put all your ingredients in, put the lid on and shake the fire out of it. You need to make sure it's mixed well.
I still use my use fabric softner, but never fear-I am researching the best DIY fabric softner and will post it for you!

Happy DIYing!

Strawberry Sprite Cake

Last Sunday we had a fundraiser for the kids going to Kid's Camp at church, so I had to come up with a dessert quick. And wadya know...I had Sprite and a Strawberry Cake Mix in the pantry. I thought, well, I'll give it a go! OH. MY. GOODNESS!! Yummmeee!

Ingredients:

1 Box Strawberry Cake Mix

1 Egg

20 oz Sprite

Your kind of icing or cool whip

Directions: Mix all ingredients like you would for a normal cake batter. Pour in a 9x12 pan sprayed with Pam or rubbed down with butter. It will look frothy, but that's ok! Cook on 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Let it cool and add your topping. For a special occasion, top with strawberries. Wow...Get In My Belly!!

Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings

I saw this recipe posted somewhere a while back and couldn't find it again, so here's what I came up with. It turned out ok except I won't use the Jumbo Flaky Biscuits next time, just the regular biscuits. It was too much and too sweet. Let me know what you come up with!

Ingredients:

3-4 Chicken Breasts, thawed

1 large can of Cream of Chicken

20oz Chicken Stock (you might need to add more in the end)

4 Cans Flaky Biscuits (Not Jumbo)

Onion

3 Tbsp Butter

Salt and Pepper

Directions:

Turn crock pot on high and add all the ingredients. I grated about 1/4 of the onion. That way me and Thing 1 didn't know there was onions in there. Cook for 4-6 hours.

Then cut up your biscuits and add to the crock pot. Cook for about 30-50 minutes. Another Get In My Belly!!

Enchilada Night!

This is my version of Enchiladas. You can make many versions of my recipe..have fun and let me know what you came up with! This is just a little time consuming, but it makes 2 batches and is delicious.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 Package Mexican Rice
1 Can Refried Beans
1 Can Black Beans
2 Cans Enchilada Sauce
1 Can Rotel
Burritos

Cook your rice according to directions and have ready.
Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder and cook your meat until done. Drain and add a can of Rotel. (If you like yours with some extra kick, don't drain the Rotel and use Hot Rotel)

Drain well.

Add black beans, mexican rice and refried beans.

Cover 9x12 pan with some of the enchilada sauce so the burritos won't stick so much.

Put your mixture into a burrito and fold.

Put as many burritos in your pan and put the rest in another pan, cover well and freeze. Don't add the rest of the ingredients (meaning don't cover with sauce) until you thaw out and are ready to use. You've got another supper DONE!!! Woopie!

Cover well with remaining enchilada sauce. Don't cover any of the dish, they will be too soggy. Add tons and I mean, TONS of cheese! Your favorite will do!

The end result...Get in My Belly!!!
